BeRn "She Is Me" Neesh BMD 62
March 2005
John O'Regan (Broadcaster / Journalist)
Irish-American singer/songwriter BeRn resides in San Francisco but cut
"She Is Me" in Roscommon's Lake Studios, last year. A spunky mix of
folk, rock, celtic, jazz styles topped off with a delivery full of attitude,
"She Is Me" outlines an intriguing new talent on the block. Steve
Wickham's violin and mandolin and Conor Gillan's djembe frame
"Cowgirl" while "Drown In You" benefits from Fiachra
Cunningham's electric guitar. Vocally, BeRn resembles Linda Perry (4 Non
Blondes), full of presence and authority. Musically, shades of Alternative
Country / Indie / College Radio Rock and Acoustic Folk-Rock meet with
successful results. The title track is an elegant string-based ballad with
whispered smoky vocals and "Drogheda" recalls her hometown with a
sting in the tale. BeRn's performances are forthright, confident and assured.
"She Is Me" is a killer debut.
